There's a big difference between a celebrity with a Q rating of 5 and one with 50, but they're still both famous.

First of all, while you observe, you are not playing.
I learn more by playing than by watching others play. It's like watching football. Yes, you see synergy, bodyblocking techniques and whatnot, but you don't get to feel them unless you are the one doing them.

Maybe.
There are a few people that I would like customized weapons from -- but the people on this list are friends -- I don't want to be buying weapons from "famous" people who have never heard of me. That's being a nobody fangirl/boy at its finest.
My bank/bag space is also at a premium lately -_- I'd rather have it filled with stuff I can use.
As a side note, two of my friends (one ex-) have handed customized stuff to me for no apparent reason in the past. I stuck it in a corner of my bank and forgot about it until I needed more bag space.........

In Korea, top players can fill stadiums. In the US, we make fun of them (even if they are making $100k+ a year playing video games).
|
You mean never taken seriously outside the obsessive hardcore crowd. Personally I have better things to do with my time than sit in a stadium and watch someone play a video game.

Only if it ment alot to me, but I wouldn't buy it if s/he was just famous. I've never been one of those people. When people talk to me about famous people, I just ask them who they are talking about, and if they say a name I have to wiki/google it ._.

Well not a stadium, but for Quake3 I watched some of the world team games with Quake TV. That was fun at the time.

Not exactly a weapon, but I did win an "auction" for Doom Box's hat last Halloween. I think I paid something like 8k, so not much at all. Thing is I've only been playing for about a year now and at the time i had never heard the name before.

Back in the day, players were famous in Guild Wars, whether people want to believe it or not. 3 or 4 years ago if you asked around in LA who Im A Paladin was, most people would say they did. Whether that holds up today is a different story, because of the influx of new players and the efflux of old ones since then.
So, pretty much, being famous in a video game has more of a temporal quality than being famous irl.
That being said, I'd still want their weapons :P

So does that mean football suddenly isn't taken seriously?

I've played the game for over 5 years yet I have never witnessed "talk" of any famous players. There are a few people who tend to get mentioned here on Guru and in other communities, but not much so in-game. The only area of the game where that happens is PvP as far as I can tell.

In Guild Halls, Heroes Ascent, and ToPK if I remember right. What's up?

I'd buy one if it was customized to a GM, otherwise no. I don't like admiring other people for no reason.

I doubt i would buy something like that, to be honest it's like a waste of precious inventory space, but i guarantee you if it was customized to someone named "Justin Beiber" i bet you'd get some weirdo buyers out there :/

I don't play or follow PvP or the "famous powertrader" scene, so I can't really think of any famous players. As previously mentioned, Sab and Doombox do come to mind but I'm not sure I'd have any interest in any items with their name on them.

Unless it was like Gaile Gray or something, probably not.
I've never heard of "famous" players on Guild Wars anyway. o_O
I've been playing for 4 years and I've not once heard of a famous player. Not in PvP, not in PvE, not in anything.
